“THE BLACK MADONNA OF MONTSERRAT”
There are many images of a black Madonna in the world. This is the most popular one in Spain. The earliest image of Mary is attributed to the evangelist St. Luke. Mary has multiple titles. Scripture tells us that Jesus was born of the “Virgin Mary.” But early Christians already believed that she remained a virgin her entire life.

The belief that Jesus was true God and true man grew in the early church. Consequently, the belief that Mary was the “Mother of God” also grew.
Today, Mary is certainly the most loved woman in the world. She is venerated far beyond the boundaries of the Christian faith.
