“Our Lady of the Passion (of Perpetual Help)”

This icon was first painted/written in 1545. It is an image portraying Jesus learning at a very early age that he was destined to suffer tremendously.

The two angels, one of which he is looking at, are holding instruments that would be used at his crucifixion. Upon seeing those tools of torture, he was shocked and one of his sandals falls off his foot.

In the early 1800s, St. Alfonse Liguori promoted the devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Help and commissioned?? an icon, similar to the original one, which is displayed/held?? in a Redemptorist church in Rome.

Mary and Joseph both suffered much because of the particular calling they received. First, there was the confusion caused by Mary’s pregnancy. The angel Gabriel “explained” the situation to them.

Then, when Mary gave birth, Joseph couldn’t even find a place in an inn. To save His life, they left their country and became refugees.

Back home, He filled his parents with anxiety when he stayed in Jerusalem. He returned a final time to Jerusalem, where he met the death he often predicted.

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph: Pray for us!
